摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem of the conventional photocatalyst that since the photocatalyst itself has photocatalysis, the photocatalyst can not exhibit photocatalysis satisfactorily when the photocatalyst is dropped out of a holding base material or a contaminant does not exist on the surface of the photocatalyst. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Potassium octatitanate has remarkably large photocatalysis as a new photocatalyst and has the photocatalysis larger than those of titanium oxide photocatalysts widely used at present. When the potassium ion existing on the surface of the synthesized potassium octatitanate is cleaned/removed by an acid or the like, the potassium octatitanate having much larger photocatalysis can be obtained. When the potassium octatitanate is formed into a fibrous shape, the fibrous potassium octatitanate is fixed easily to the holding base material and since the fibrous potassium octatitanate has the effective surface area larger than that of the particulate potassium octatitanate, the fibrous potassium octatitanate can exhibit the photocatalysis effectively. The fibrous potassium octatitanate can be fabricated into a paper-like shape by making good use of characteristics of the fibrous potassium octatitanate.
