<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated article with a film excellent in coating film hardness, impact resistance, adhesion property and finish appearance on a stainless steel substrate. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A method for forming a film on the stainless steel substrate includes: dipping the stainless steel substrate in an aqueous solution or an aqueous dispersion of at least one metal salt chosen from the group consisting of an alkali metal salt of silicic acid and an alkali metal salt of metaboric acid and applying electricity so as to form a film; and subsequently conducting electrodeposition of an anionic electrodeposition paint (B) on the film to form the coating film. The anionic electrodeposition paint (B) comprises 50-75 pts.mass of a carboxyl group-containing resin (b1), 5-25 pts.mass of an amino resin (b2) and 0.1-25 pts.mass of an isophorone diisocyanate compound blocked with methyl amyl ketoxime (b3) based on 100 pts.mass total solid content of the carboxyl group-containing resin (b1), the amino resin (b2) and the isophorone diisocyanate compound blocked with methyl amyl ketoxime (b3).
