<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery capable of preventing liquid leakage when a heat cycle is applied. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The battery includes: a container 1; a positive electrode and a negative electrode housed in the container 1; an electrolyte retained in the container; a battery lid 5 disposed at an opening in the container and having a mounting hole 11 therein; an insulating gasket 7 having a cylindrical section 17 inserted in the mounting hole 11 in the battery lid 5 and a flange 16 formed at one end of the cylindrical section 17 for covering a peripheral edge of the mounting hole 11 in the upper surface of the battery lid 5; and a rivet 8 for an output terminal of the positive or negative terminal, the rivet having a shank caulked to the battery lid 5 while being inserted in the cylindrical section 17 of the insulating gasket 7 and a head 20 formed at one end of the shank and disposed on the flange 16 of the insulating gasket 7.
