1,210,017. Measuring dimensions ultrasonically. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. 29 March, 1968 [6 April, 1967], No. 15299/68. Heading H4D. A dimension of a body cavity (e.g. the width of a ventricle) is measured by an ultrasonic pulse-echo method using a catheter 10 which carries at its end two plates 11, 12 functioning as piezoelectric transducers and connected to respective electrical leads within the catheter. A two-way switch 24 enables either transducer to be connected to pulse generator 21 and receiver 22 for ranging on two opposed walls of the cavity in turn. The two range measurements are indicated and/or recorded at 23 and are added to the catheter width to give the required dimension. |
