摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell having improved bonding strength at the peripheral edge of a catalyst layer in a connection area between a gas diffusion layer and an electrolyte membrane while effectively suppressing the cross leak of gas and minimizing the number of components, and to provide its manufacturing method. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell comprises a membrane electrode assembly having the electrolyte membrane 1 and the catalyst layer 2, and the gas diffusion layer 3 having a collecting layer 31 (MPL) and a diffusion layer substrate 32 and bonded thereto. The catalyst layer 2 narrower than the electrolyte membrane 1 abuts on the electrolyte membrane 1, and the collecting layer 31 encircling the catalyst layer 2 abuts on the electrolyte membrane 1 at the peripheral edge of the catalyst layer 2. The diffusion layer substrate 32 is formed on the opposite side of the collecting layer 31 to the catalyst layer 2. A region of the peripheral edge of the catalyst layer 2 out of the diffusion layer substrate 32 and the collecting layer 31, including at least an interface region between the diffusion layer substrate 32 and the collecting layer 31 and an interface region between the collecting layer 31 and the electrolyte membrane 1, is impregnated and held with electrolyte. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
