SOLUTION: This medium supply devices TRt, TR1-TR4 comprise medium width measuring members 9, 47 for measuring the widths of media S stored in medium storage containers 1, 21, medium type storage means C7, C7' for storing the plurality of preset medium types, the medium widths of the medium types and allowance errors of the medium widths, and medium type determining means C11, C13 for determining the medium types in accordance with the medium widths measured by the medium width measuring members 9, 47, the medium type determining means C11, C13 determining the medium type of priority one of a first medium width and a second medium width when the range of an allowance error of the first medium width is overlapped with the range of an allowance error of the second medium width and the medium width measured by the medium width measuring members 9, 47 is in a range where the first medium width is overlapped with the second medium width.
