PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication imaging apparatus suitable for authenticating a face by a simple constitution. SOLUTION: The authentication imaging apparatus 1 is provided with: a near-infrared camera 12; a near-infrared LED 10; a synchronization control part 16 which controls the near-infrared LED 10 to irradiate a subject by varied intensity and controls the near-infrared camera 12 so as to imaging the subject in synchronization with the intensity variation of illumination; a face detection part 18 which detects an image of the face of a person from the image captured by the near-infrared camera 12; a pixel value distribution analysis part 20 which divides the image of the face detected by the face detection part 18 into a plurality of partial areas and calculating the distribution of the pixel values in respective partial areas; and an authentication face image synthesizing part 22 which subjects all the partial areas constituting the image of the face to selection of one partial area from among the partial areas corresponding to the plurality of images captured with the varied intensity of illumination on the basis of the distribution of pixel values in the respective partial areas obtained by the pixel value distribution analysis part 20, and synthesizes the selected partial image to synthesize an authentication face image.
