<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a connecting and vibration control structure of a structure, obtaining an efficient damping effect by utilizing relative displacement between both structures in a small shake, and reducing response to a shake with priority to the strucure having an inferior earthquake proofing performance in a large shake. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This connecting and vibration control structure includes: a variable damping device 3 connecting a first structure 1 and a second structure 2 having an inferior earthquake proofing performance; a first sensor 5 for detecting the magnitude of shaking of the second structure 2; and a control means 4 for controlling a damping coefficient of the variable damping device 3 according to a detection signal from the first sensor, wherein the variable damping device 3 is fixed to a damping coefficient to damp shaking of both the first and second structures 1, 2 in an ordinary state, and the control means 4 controls the damping coefficient of the variable damping device 3 to restrain shaking of the second structure 2 with priority when the first sensor 5 detects a shake exceeding a preset level, which will cause damage of the second structure 2.
