POSITION DETECTION SYSTEM

<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system detecting the positions of objects at high speed despite its simple constitution. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A first light source 1 and a second light source 2 are surface light sources. The intensity of light from both the first light source 1 and the second light source 2 periodically changes substantially in the same frequency. A phase difference is set between periodic changes of light from the first light source 1 and periodic changes of light from the second light source 2. A light receiving part 3 receives mixed light of light from the first light source 1 and light from the second light source 2. Each intensity of light from the first light source 1 and light from the second light source 2 changes in different phases according to the receiving position of the mixed light of the light receiving part 3. A computation part 4 computes the position of the light receiving part 3 on the basis of a phase difference between periodic changes in the intensity of the mixed light received at the light receiving part 3, and periodic changes in the intensity of light emitted from the first light source 1 or the second light source 2.
