PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an indoor unit of an air conditioner capable of reducing risk that a panel is not received in an indoor unit body. SOLUTION: This indoor unit 2 of the air conditioner is the indoor unit for the ceiling-mounted air conditioner, and includes the indoor unit body 20 provided with an indoor air suction opening 20a on its under surface, a flat panel 24 capable of taking a received state and a non-received state and being lowered to a lower part of the suction opening 20a in the non-received state, a panel elevating mechanism 7 having a wire 71 for lifting up the flat panel 24, and an elevation motor 76 for delivering and winding up the wire 71 to move the panel up and down, a hinge connecting mechanism 6 disposed independently from the wire 71, and taking a supporting state and a non-supporting state, a connecting mechanism control section 34 for switching the state of the hinge connecting mechanism 6, and a determining section 35 for determining whether the state is a rising normal state or not. The connecting mechanism control section 34 performs switching control to switch the state of the hinge connecting mechanism 6 to the non-supporting state when the determining section 35 determines that the state is not the rising normal state.
