PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a more versatile magnetic sensor capable of discriminating intensity and polarity of an external magnetic field including the case where no magnetic field is present. SOLUTION: The magnetic sensor 1 includes an exciting coil L1 and a detecting coil L2 having a magnetic core 2 inserted. Low frequency is applied to the exiting coil L1, and high frequency is applied to the detecting coil L2. A magnetic flux consisting of a magnetic flux of the exciting coil L1 interlinking with the magnetic core 2 of the detecting coil L2 and an external magnetic field (permanent magnet 4) causes the magnetic core 2 of the detecting coil L2 to periodically repeat a magnetically saturated state and a magnetically unsaturated state. Based on thus modulated end voltage 3 of the detecting coil L2, the flux of the external magnetic field (permanent magnet 4) is detected. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
