<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which the opening of an apparatus body can be minimized in size by making a height dimension in the removal direction of a unit small, in removing an intermediate transfer unit. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, the intermediate transfer unit 2 including an intermediate transfer member 7, a cleaning means 8 removing toner remaining on the surface of the intermediate transfer member and a unit body supporting a plurality of supporting rollers and the cleaning means can be attached and detached to/from the opening 5 provided to the apparatus body 1. The cleaning means 8 is arranged in a position facing the arbitrary roller of the supporting rollers and is guided by a guide member in the range of a predetermined angle θ in the outer circumferential direction of the roller, centering on the roller, to be rotatable.
