<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operating device in a by-wire system that can easily change an operative feel and enables a plurality of operating units to work together. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An operating device 1 in the by-wire system includes a right controller 2 having an operating lever 20, a left controller 3 having an operating lever 30, a right gear 22, a right motor 23, a right-angle sensor 24, a left gear 32, a left motor 33, a left-angle sensor 34, and a control unit 4. Based on angles θ<SB>1</SB>and θ<SB>2</SB>of the operating levers 20 and 30, respectively, and on a difference between the angles ϕ, an operative-feel force component T<SB>F</SB>of a force acting to return the levers to their neutral positions and an interlocking-operation force component T<SB>R</SB>of a wire tension are calculated to generate the operative feel.
