<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a stripe by randomly changing a clock signal inputted to an invertor and preventing fixation of a pixel position affected by noise. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An image reader (scanner 1) has: a lamp for irradiating a document with light; the invertor that is connected to the lamp and changes voltage applied to the electrode of the lamp, and lights the lamp; an image sensor allowing the incidence of the light applied to the document and reading the document in units of lines; a synchronization signal generation section for generating a synchronization signal for synchronization with each line period of the image sensor; and a clock signal generation section for generating a clock signal to randomly change the clock frequency of the clock signal.
