A solar collector comprises a translucent outer panel 12, an intermediate conduit 11 for a heat exchange fluid medium 18, and an outer backing layer 13, where the backing layer is profiled or is provided with means for conduit location and support. The heat exchange fluid medium is conveniently water. Preferably, the collector is formed as a laminated sandwich construction with opposed outer panels of multi-wall sheet with internal corrugations (see figure 13C). The conduit may comprise a flexible and/or resiliently deformable thin walled pipe, wound into a spiral coil or closed compact form. The pipe may be formed from plastics material. Preferably, the collector is either configured as a flat panel (10, fig.1) or as a polygonal or curved three dimensional form, such as a cone, frusto-conical truncated shape or a pyramid. Advantageously, the solar collector is combined with a photovoltaic (PV) generation element. |
