A sealing device for an electrochemical generator, such as an accumulator or dry cell, having a metallic cover provided with at least one orifice through which metal terminal 115 protrudes, comprises a ring-shaped gasket 110, of, for example, neoprene, compressed between an insulating part 33, of, e.g., polypropylene, carried by terminal 115 and a thickened portion 36 of metal or rigid insulating material provided on the terminal. Portion 36 may be in the form of a truncated cone-shaped member separate from the terminal as shown or it may be integral with the terminal. Part 33 is preferably provided with a flange 35 which defines recess 34. A serrated lock washer 42 and a lock-nut 43 are provided on the threaded portion 118 of terminal 115 to ensure that nut 120 does not become undone. The gasket 110 comprises two integral parts, the first of which is positioned outwardly of the cover and is of such a size that it cannot pass inwardly and a second part which is an inwardly directed skirt-like extension with an inner and outer diameter equal to that of the terminal and orifice respectively. The gasket separates the thickened portion 36 from the cover. |
