摘要 1,232,940. Quenching cracked gases. STONE & WEBSTER ENG. CORP. 14 Aug., 1969 [26 Sept., 1968], No. 40703/69. Heading C5E. [Also in Division F4] Thermally cracked hydrocarbon gases are introduced (e.g. through a conduit 1) into a chamber 2 providing therein a quenching zone in which the gases are cooled by contact with a film 11 of quench oil flowing down the wall of said chamber, and by contact with additional quench oil sprayed into said zone (e.g. through one or more nozzles 9, 10), a proportion only (e.g. 10 to 50%), of the quench oil being vaporized as it flows through the quenching zone. As shown, the end of the conduit 1 extends into the chamber 2 and is surrounded by a layer of heat insulation 4. This may itself be encircled by an insulation chamber (14, Fig. 3) which is kept free from residual accumulations by passage therethrough of steam or nitrogen. The quench liquid forming the film 11 is introduced into the chamber 2 through one or more entry ports 5 whence it passes downwardly to the quenching zone by way of an annular gap 8 formed between the chamber wall and a ring member 6.
