Disclosed is a solution for use as a flocculant, including water, unit particles of hydrous aluminium silicate obtained by breaking down aggregates (such as by sonication) of mineral particles in a mineral raw material (such as kaolin), wherein the hydrous aluminium silicate in the unit particles has the same structure as in the mineral raw material, characterised in that the solution includes a pH adjuster to ensure that the unit particles remain dispersed or loosely associated with one another in the water. Also disclosed is a method of manufacturing a solution for use as a flocculant, including the steps of: (a) collecting a mineral raw material, wherein the mineral raw material includes aggregates of hydrous aluminium silicate; (b) mixing the mineral raw material with water; (c) breaking down the mineral raw material to obtain unit particles of hydrous aluminium silicate; wherein the step of breaking down the mineral particles ensures that the unit particles of hydrous aluminium silicate retains the same structure as in the mineral raw material; the method characterised by the step of: (d) Adding a pH adjuster to the solution to ensure that the unit particles remain dispersed or loosely associated with one another in the water.
