PURPOSE: A flat panel display device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to reduce conspicuously a failure rate in manufacturing a plurality of flat panel display devices at the same time. CONSTITUTION: A display unit(200) is arranged on a substrate(100'). An opposite substrate(300') is arranged to be opposite to the substrate for the inner side arrangement of the display unit. A sealant(410) is arranged between the substrate and the opposite substrate. The sealant is touched with the substrate and the opposite substrate. The sealant is arranged along the external circumference part of the display unit. A sub layer(420) is arranged between the substrate and the opposite substrate. The external end surface of the sub layer is in accord with the end surface of the opposite substrate.
