<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a bookend which is constituted by supporting a support side plate to be made into freely slidable along the long side of a base plate in a raised manner to the base plate, forming a hook to be engaged/disengaged with/from the base plate is formed at the lower end of the side plate, when the side plate is inclined to the side of a book on the base plate, engagement to the base plate is removed interlocked with the hook, and the side plate is made into slidable to be pressurized to the side of the book, and when the side plate which receives reaction force of the pressurized book restores to a raised position, the interlocked hook is engaged with the base plate to support the side plate and the book in the raised manner. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The bookend is constituted by supporting the support side plate in the raised manner on a sliding plate which is made into freely slidable along the long side of the base plate, forming the hook at the lower siude part of the side plate, and arranging many hook holes which can be engaged/disengaged with/from the hook in line along the line of flow of the hook, wherein the support side plate and the hook are inclined to the side where the hook and the hook holes are disengaged from each other around a support position to make the support side plate freely slidable, and when the support side plate occupies a raised position, the interlocked hook is engaged with the hook holes to support the support side plate at the raised position, and holds the book on the base plate in the raised manner.
