CONTACT SENSING DEVICE WITH IMPROVED EDGE POSITION RECOGNITION CHARACTERISTICS

A contact sensing device having improved edge contact position recognition characteristics is disclosed.  A contact sensing device according to one working example of the present invention has a contact position discernment function. The device comprises: a panel part comprising a plurality of sensor electrodes arranged in lines along a first axis; a sensor part which is connected to the plurality of sensor electrodes and which collects sensor data indicating changes in the electrical characteristics occurring in each sensor electrode; and an operating part which uses the collected sensor data relating to at least one of the sensor electrodes, from among the plurality of sensor electrodes, to discern the contact position on the panel part on which the contact of a user has been applied. Among the plurality of sensor electrodes, a warning sensor electrode is constituted by one positioned on the edge in the first axis direction, and this warning sensor electrode is formed in such a way that its width in the first axis direction is shorter than is the case for the other sensor electrodes.  When this configuration is employed, ineffective input areas formed on the edge of the input area can be removed or reduced, and the contact position recognition characteristics for such contact sensing devices can be enhanced.
