<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a black resin composition from which a resin black matrix being a thin film and having a high OD (Optical Density) value and high adhesion is obtained, and to provide a color filter having high flatness even if the color filter has no protective film. <P>SOLUTION: The black resin composition is composed, at the least, of a light shielding material, a resin and a solvent and contains a metal carbide having ≥10 m<SP>2</SP>/g specific surface area as the light shielding material at the least.
