<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of a resorcin-formaldehyde resin, which can reduce a generated amount of a monomer and a high-order condensate not less than a pentamer of resorcin without adding any salt. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The production method of a resorcin-formaldehyde resin includes a step of subjecting resorcin and formaldehyde to a heterogeneous reaction in the presence of ketones represented by general formula (1) or (2), water and phosphoric acids, wherein in general formula (1), n represents 0 or 1; and R<SB>1</SB>, R<SB>2</SB>and R<SB>3</SB>each represent an aliphatic hydrocarbon group or an aromatic hydrocarbon group, where the sum of numbers of carbon atoms of R<SB>1</SB>, R<SB>2</SB>and R<SB>3</SB>is 3 or more and 12 or less, and in general formula (2), R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>2</SB>each represent an aliphatic hydrocarbon group, where the sum of numbers of carbon atoms of R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>2</SB>is 3 or more and 12 or less.
