<p>The heating of ingots in a soaking pit is controlled, after initially heating the furnace using max. rate of feed of combustibles, and the rate of feed then being reduced. Esp., the rate of feed of combustible is measured at least at three separate moments, pref. separated by equal periods, and pref. starting from the moment reduction of feed rate commences. From the measurements the character of a temporal curve of combustible flow rate is established. The distribution of calories from combustion between the charge and the furnace itself are deuced and a ratio (a) calories absorbed by ingots/calories absorbed by furnace is compared with a ratio (b) optimum ingot calories/optimum furnace calories which has previously been experimentally defined. The moment of discharging the furnace is obtained by calculating the time at which ratio (b) reaches optimum.</p> |
