<p>A plant for the prodn of nitric acid from ammonia and air consists of two vessels. In the upper one ammonia is catalytically oxidised nitrous gases and water. The products are cooled by a thermal recuperator and condenser and in the lower vessel nitrous gases are oxidised and absorbed to form nitric acid. The plant operates at 2-12 atmospheres using Pt or Rh-Pt catalysts and is intended for prodn of 50-200 tons of nitric acid/day. It is compact, easily erected and transportable.</p> |
