METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CONTROLLING CAMERA POSITION USING OF GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM

PURPOSE: A camera location control method using a GIS and an apparatus thereof are provided to search a monitoring region quickly and exactly and obtain information about the monitoring region easily by using the GIS including a digital map and a camera including a pan/tilt device. CONSTITUTION: A pan/tilt camera unit(100) controls the pan/tilt angle of a camera(102) obtaining an external image. A user interface unit(120) operates the pan/tilt camera unit, and displays a digital map and an image received from the pan/tilt camera unit. A GIS(Geographic Information System) unit(140) includes a digital map database of the visible region of the pan/tilt camera unit. The GIS unit searches characteristics for each point on the digital map and the location of the digital map by using the digital map database.
