<p>Paper filler is prepd. by (a) forming an aqs. suspension of mineral particles, (b) mixing the suspension of mineral particles with a water-soluble cpd., and (c) coagulating the water-soluble cpd. in the presence of the mineral particles in such a manner that the particles are coated by the coagulated cpd. It is esp. useful for coating calcium carbonated for use as a filler for paper and cardboard, which then has a reduced chemical reactivity towards the alum used in paper mfe. The particles bond partic. well to the cellulose fibres, and the paper obtained has better physical properties, esp. bursting strength.</p> |
