The system has a fastening unit i.e. link (4), for fastening a rigid, elongated paneling element i.e. chromium strip (1), to an engine hood section of a motor vehicle. A recess (3) is provided at the engine hood section, and the fastening unit is engaged with the recess. The link is arranged at the paneling element and extends along a length of the paneling element from a channel. A free end of the link is not aligned with a length of the paneling element, and the link forms a hook with the paneling element. The recess is formed at the engine hood section along a line. An independent claim is also included for a method for attaching a rigid, elongated paneling element to an engine hood section of a motor vehicle.
