<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording system that allows the record data to be reproduced at a high speed when using a hologram recording and reproducing medium in which the hologram recording layer has different features (volumes) depending on temperature. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Signal light 14 modulated in accordance with recording data and reference light 15 are generated from a light beam from a wavelength variable laser light source 11. A plurality of holograms are recorded in the same region of a hologram recording layer of the hologram recording and reproducing medium 20 under different recording conditions by allowing the signal light 14 and the reference light 15 to interfere without changing the recording data.
