<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of preventing unnecessary reflection in an IPS liquid crystal display device with a built-in optical sensor. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device comprises a liquid crystal panel with a built-in optical sensor TFT1 including a first substrate SU1, a second substrate SU2, and a liquid crystal layer LCL sandwiched by the first substrate SU1 and the second substrate SU2, and a first polarizing plate PL1 and a second polarizing plate PL2 on and beneath the liquid crystal panel respectively, wherein the liquid crystal panel has a plurality of pixels that can be controlled independently, each of which has a display part in the main section in its center. The liquid crystal display device also comprises a pair of a pixel electrode PE and a common electrode CE in the display part on the surface adjacent to the liquid crystal layer LCL between the first substrate SU1 or the second substrate SU2 and the liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal layer LCL is not present on the optical sensor TFT1, and a retardation layer RE is disposed on the optical sensor TFT1. The retardation layer RE on the optical sensor TFT1 and the first polarizing plate PL1 function as a circularly polarizing plate. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
