<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately convey a medium to an image recording area. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The medium conveying device (SU) has downstream side medium conveying members (12a-14a, 22a-24a, 30a, 33a, 34a, 41a, 42a, 42b, 43a, 53a, 61a-63a); and downstream side medium conveying member control means (C5, C5', C5'', C8, C8', C8'') for reducing a speed to a downstream conveying speed that the following medium (S2) is conveyed-in to a conveying timing adjustment member (Rr) after a preceding medium (S1) is conveyed out from the conveying timing adjustment member (Rr) when the following medium (S2) is conveyed out from an upstream side medium conveying member (Ra2). The device (SU) is provided with a medium superposing part (SH2+1+2) in which the following medium (S2) is caught up with the preceding medium (S1) in the deviated state relative to the preceding medium (S1) and a rear end part in the medium conveying direction of the preceding medium (S1) and a front end part in the medium conveying direction of the following medium (S2) are superposed.
