<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction material for a vibration control friction damper exhibiting a stable high friction coefficient and wear resistance against vibration ranging from high-frequency vibration such as an earthquake to low-frequency vibration by strong wind, and having both of noise resistance and corrosion resistance. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The friction material for the vibration control friction damper, which controls vibration of a structural material constituting a building structure with frictional force, comprises a fiber material reinforcing the friction material, a friction adjusting material adjusting frictional force of the friction material, and a binder binding the friction adjusting material with the fiber material. The fiber material comprises 2-20 vol% of heat-resistant organic fiber, 5-20 vol% of ceramic fiber, and 5-25 vol% of metal fiber on the basis of the friction material, and a content of the fiber material is 15-45 vol% on the basis of the friction material. The friction adjusting material comprises 2-15 vol% of hard particles with Mohs hardness of 7.5 or less, and 2-20 vol% of solid lubricating material based on the friction material.
