<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of moving to a maintenance mode after securing high security, without cost increase. <P>SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus 1 comprises: a radio tag interface 44 which reads attribute information from a radio tag 7 provided to a toner cartridge 413; a control part 23 which controls an image forming process based on the attribute information read through the radio tag interface 44; and a mode switch part 25 which switches from an image forming mode to be able to execute an image forming process to a maintenance mode to be able to execute a predetermined maintenance operation.
