A confocal microspectroscope (100) for spectrometry of a part or the whole of a sample (S) includes a distributed liquid crystal rotator (3) for generating an axisymmetrically polarized laser beam having a polarization distribution symmetrical with respect to the optical axis and an objective (8) for focusing the axisymmetrically polarized laser beam on the sample (S).  The objective (8) focuses reflected and/or scattered light from the sample (S).
