PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a main object intended by a user to be stably focused so as to reduce an unpleasant feeling given to the user. SOLUTION: When succeeding in face recognition by a face detection processing circuit 116, a TV-AF control is performed by setting a face frame including a recognized face area and following up an object and an ordinary frame not following up the object in an AF gate 112, and adding AF evaluated values of the respective frames output from an AF signal processing circuit 113. As to the AF evaluated value obtained by adding the AF evaluated values of the respective frames performed in the TV-AF control in a camera/AF microcomputer 114, a means for changing weighting of the AF evaluated value of the face frame according to position information on an image plane of the recognized face area, and size information of the face area or a photographing mode is provided.
