The device has a waste container detecting unit for identifying master data of a waste container (1). A CPU stores and processes the master data that is exchanged with data of the detecting unit. A comminution device (3) e.g. chopper, comminutes waste from a receiver (2). A bunker (4) is provided for intermediate storage of the comminuted waste. A sampling device (25) is connected with the bunker and samples the comminuted waste. The sampling device is connected with the CPU, for data exchange with the CPU and associating the sampled waste with the master data.
