<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake device capable of detecting a pad contact position without giving uncomfortable feeling to a driver. <P>SOLUTION: A pad contact point is detected when the prescribed time passes after a detection signal from a wheel speed sensor shows the following relationship, wheel speed=0 km/h, (step S11; Yes), and it is determined that thrust of an electric caliper exceeds a prescribed value (step S12; Yes), that is, during stopping and braking of the vehicle.
