PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an equipment control device and method whereby a device for remotely controlling the operating state of equipment having a toggle switch can be installed without remodeling the power line of the equipment. SOLUTION: The control device 1 for switching the operating state of the equipment 20 having the toggle switch 65 for manually switching the operating state includes: a communication unit 2 which receives a signal for switching the operating state of the equipment 20; a left cylinder 45 and a right cylinder 46 for allowing the operating state of the equipment 20 to be switched as a lever for operating the toggle switch 65 is displaced in one direction or the opposite direction; and a control unit 3 for operating the left cylinder 45 or the right cylinder 46 and switching the operating state of the equipment 20 when the communication unit 2 receives the signal for switching the equipment 20.
