<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an image defect caused by a density difference. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus (U) includes: image holding bodies (PRy, PRm, PRc and PRk); latent image forming devices (LHy, LHm, LHc and LHk) forming a latent image on the image holding bodies (PRy, PRm, PRc and PRk) on the basis of an image recorded on a medium (S); developing devices (Gy, Gm, Gc and Gk) developing the latent image on the image holding bodies (PRy, PRm, PRc and PRk) to be a visible image; a high image density discrimination means (C7) discriminating whether or not image density is higher than set discrimination density; and a density difference-reducing image formation-designating means (C8) forming a density difference-reducing image (TB) for reducing a density difference between an image forming area (3) in which an image is formed and an area (4) out of the image forming area on the outside of the image forming area (3) when the high image density discrimination means discriminates that the image density is high.
