<p>A number of parallel fuel rods with axial guide ribs on their sheaths are maintained at the required fixed spacing by transverse lightweight mesh spacers made up of concentric circles joined by radial strips. The rods are within separator tubes and coolant flows over them independently of the moderator as in DT 2,019,271. Local reinforced sections in the meshes support the guide ribs on the rods and are grooved to accept them. Rubbing damage to the sheaths of the rods due to thermal expansion and contraction is considerably reduced.</p> |
