<p>The vessel has a tapered bottom with a flange to which the drain pipe is fixed at the apex, and with a conical valve seat within the thickness of the wall on which an inward opening, mushroom headed valve, with a supplementary elastic sealing ring, is held in the closed position by a spring, the stem of the valve passing through a gland in the wall of the pipe, the inner surface of the pipe and the end of the gland being unbroken. The edge of the valve head is flush with the inside wall of the vessel in the closed position. A manually operated cam or a linear actuator operates the valve stem. Elimination of dead space prevents trapping of potentially spoilt food.</p> |
