PURPOSE: A mobile terminal and a method for displaying a keypad of the mobile terminal are provided to change keypad display based on a character kind selected by pre-inputted data touch/approach. CONSTITUTION: A display unit(151) displays various information and a keypad. A sensing unit(140) senses the touch and/or approach of the display unit. A controller(180) changes the keypad displayed on the display unit based on the detected touch and/or approach. If the touch is maintained during fixed time, the controller converts input mode into operation mode.
