PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve timing adjusting device for enhancing holding performance and adjusting the responsiveness of the valve timing. SOLUTION: A phase control unit 8 for controlling a relative phase between rotary bodies 4 and 6 has a peripheral surface part 20 drawing in the rotational direction, wedge surface parts 21 and 22 for reducing an interval in the radial direction with the peripheral surface part 20 to the ignition timing delay side and the ignition timing advance side of the rotary body 6 to the rotary body 4, rolling elements 30 and 31 interposed between the peripheral surface part 20 and the wedge surface parts 21 and 22, an elastic member 32 interposed between the rolling elements 30 and 31 and energizing the rolling elements 30 and 31 to the ignition timing delay side and the ignition timing advance side, stopper surface parts 23 and 24 for locking the rolling elements 30 and 31 from the ignition timing delay side of the wedge surface part 21 and the ignition timing advance side of the wedge surface part 22, and an input rotary body 12 for pressing the rolling element 30 and the rotary body 6 to the ignition timing advance side by input of first torque and pressing the rolling element 31 and the rotary body 6 to the ignition timing delay side by input of second torque, as a control mechanism 10, and also has a control actuator 9 for controlling generation of the first and second torques.
