PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder capable of inhibiting paper media from being left in a conveyance path when double-feed occurs. SOLUTION: The paper feeder has a storage section storing a number of paper media, a separation roller separating and sending out the paper media in the storage section one by one to the conveyance path and a plurality of conveyance rollers conveying the paper media in the conveyance path. The paper feeder is composed of an ultrasonic sensor, which comprises a transmission section transmitting ultrasonic wave and a detection section detecting the ultrasonic wave transmitted through the paper medium and is arranged between the separation roller and the conveyance roller closest to the separation roller, a double-feed detection section judging based on output of the detection section whether the paper media in conveyance are of double feed or not and a conveyance control section stopping the separation roller based on the judgment result by the double-feed detection section without stopping the conveyance rollers.
