PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus for stably adjusting imaging conditions. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus 16 has an imaging plane for acquiring an object field and repeatedly generates object field images. A CPU40 repeatedly determines whether the object field includes the face of a person, based on the object field image generated by the imaging apparatus 16. When the result of determination is YES, a partial imaging area including the face of the person is defined. The CPU40 adjusts imaging conditions by focusing on the defined imaging area. When the determination result is updated to NO from YES, interframe difference of high frequency element is calculated by focusing on the partial image included in the defined imaging area among the object field images generated by the imaging apparatus 16. The CPU40 controls whether a definition of the imaging area should be canceled based on the calculated interframe difference. When the interframe difference is equal to the threshold value or less, the definition of the imaging area is sustained.
