<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable displacement pump capable of easily reducing the pump displacement per time sufficiently on the high rotational speed side of an engine. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This variable displacement pump comprises a casing 2 having a suction port IP and a discharge port EP. An external gear 5 and an internal gear 4 eccentric to each other are installed in the casing 2. The axially overlapped length of the external gear 5 and the internal gear 4 is changeable to change the pump displacement. The variable displacement pump further comprises a pressure receiving operating mechanism 10 for displacing the external gear 5 and the internal gear 4 toward side of the minimum value of the overlapped length according to the discharge pressure of the fluid discharged from the fluid discharge port. The variable displacement pump further comprises bypass flow passages 2D, 20 allowing the suction port IP and the discharge port EP to communicate with each other when the overlapped length is changed to the minimum value.
