The composition of the present invention, containing the extract of the thorns of Gleditsia sinensis as the active ingredient, exhibit excellent cytotoxicity to smooth muscle cells, suppresses the expression and activity of cell cycle regulators Cdc25c, Cdc2 and cycline B, and arrests the cell cycle at the G2/M stage. By inhibiting the activity of transcription factors NF-?B and AP-1, the composition suppresses the activity of MMP-9 in smooth muscle cells and effectively blocks cell migration.
