Asbestos board is produced from 85-96 wt % asbestos fibres of the types used in paper mfr (at least 30 wt % of blue crocidolite asbestos), and a mixture of 1.5-5.0 wt % starch as a temporary binder and 4-8 wt % plastic bentonite clay as a permanent binder. The board has good strength at high temps. and is esp. suitable for mfr of large-diameter conveyor rolls consisting of asbestos board discs fixed side-by-side on large-dia. shafts.
