<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information code and an information code reader increasing the amount of information. <P>SOLUTION: The information code X is one-dimensionally arranged in the direction generally orthogonal to the longitudinal direction of a bar of a plurality of bars, of which display regions other than spaces of each bar are marked by a coating agent, and it has information by difference of optical reflection energy property by the coating agent. A filtering processing part 9 performs filtering to an output signal acquired from an A/D conversion part 7 by irradiation of light by a light source 2. A comparison value calculation part 10 calculates the reflection ratio of each display region using an output waveform after filtering and the irradiation intensity of light irradiated by a white light source 2, and calculates the ratio of the reflection ratio to a reference value for the reflection ratio determined for each reflection energy property of light. A binarization processing part 11 generates a digital signal according to the ratio value calculated by the comparison value calculation part 10.
