<p>The device (32) activates locking elements (24, 26) of a locking device for locking a steering axle (18) when a trailer (14) is moved backwards. The device is equipped for retaining the locking elements, until a preset threshold value e.g. speed-threshold value and distance-threshold value is exceeded, in an activated condition, where the threshold value describes an extent of a forward movement of the trailer. The control device detects whether backup lights (28.2,38.1,38.2) of the trailer are activated.
